How much can you earn as a bank nursery educator?
Straight answer: it depends on your qualification and how much you work — but here are the real numbers, and how to work out yours.
It’s the first thing most people want to know, and fair enough. The honest answer is that your earnings come down to two things: your qualification level, and how many hours you choose to work. The good news with bank work is that you’re in control of the second one — you pick your shifts — and with Kalendit you keep your full rate, because there’s no agency taking a cut.
Hourly rates by qualification level
Here’s a realistic guide to what educators earn per hour, depending on where you are in your training. These are typical ranges — the exact rate depends on the shift and setting:
| Your level | Typical hourly rate |
|---|---|
| Unqualified | £15–£18 |
| Level 2 | £18–£19 |
| Level 3 | £19–£20 |
| Level 3+ | £20–£21 |
| QTS | £22–£25 |
One thing worth noticing: every step up in qualification lifts your rate. If you’re currently unqualified or at Level 2, working towards your Level 3 is one of the most direct ways to earn more per hour — and many educators do it while working.
What does that add up to?
Rates per hour are useful, but most people want to know what a week actually looks like. Here’s a rough idea for a Level 3 educator working eight-hour days — remember, you choose how many days:
Prefer to work more, or less? That’s the whole point of bank work — it flexes around your life. One or two days a week to top up your income, or something close to full-time if that’s what you’re after.

Why you keep more with Kalendit
Here’s where bank work through Kalendit differs from a traditional agency. With an agency, a chunk of what the nursery pays disappears before it reaches you — that’s how agencies make their money. With Kalendit, there’s no agency in the middle taking a cut. You see the rate, you accept the shift, and you keep what you earn. Your pay is your pay.
You also get to build relationships with nurseries near you — turn up, do great work, and get invited back. Over time that means more of the shifts you actually want.
