Your questions answered
No — you don’t need a formal qualification to apply. Many nurseries on Kalendit need nursery assistants and ratio support staff. You will need an enhanced DBS check, right-to-work documents, references, and Paediatric First Aid. If you have experience with children — paid or unpaid — we encourage you to apply.
Rates vary by nursery and qualification level — but you see the rate upfront before accepting any shift. Qualified Level 3 practitioners typically earn £13–16/hr. Level 2 practitioners £11–13/hr. Nursery assistants £10–12/hr. You can earn up to £160 in a single day.
Once your profile is approved, shift availability depends on your location, qualification level and availability settings. Having push notifications on and responding quickly significantly increases the shifts you secure. Most active educators pick up regular work within their first week.
You can create a profile and begin the process, but you’ll need an enhanced DBS before your first shift. We can guide you through how to apply. The process typically takes 2–4 weeks. If you already have a DBS from a previous role, check whether it’s on the update service.
Yes — many educators on Kalendit have been offered permanent roles by nurseries they’ve worked at through the platform. Nurseries use Kalendit specifically to find permanent staff. If you’re reliable, great with children and fit the team, a permanent offer is a real possibility.
